The refinement and complexity of three great vintages of Tokaji wines
Oremus is one of those estates which, by merging with the illustrious Spanish estate Vega Sicilia, have embraced and enhanced its philosophy. Thus, in this prestigious Hungarian vineyard, a quest is constantly under way: for excellence, harmony with nature, and rigour. The prestige of this estate dates back to the 1630s, when Maté Szepsi Lacko made the first "Tokaj wine with tears" from the grapes grown in the Oremus vineyard. He gifted it to the wife of the Prince of Transylvania, Princess Susana Lorántffy, to thank her the kindness she had shown the people of Tokaj. A century later, Oremus has already established itself as one of the world's most renowned estates.
The 18-year-old vines, which are cultivated using sustainable viticultural methods, are rooted in a gravelly, clayey subsoil covered with fine loamy soil. The 115 hectares planted with the Furmint, Harslevelü, Zéta and Sargamuskotaly grape varieties are spread over three steep hills in the heart of the Tokaji region. They enjoy an ideal sun exposure, enabling the botrytised grapes to ripen in the caressing sun of the Indian summer.
For hundreds of years, 5 Puttonyos has been made by adding 5 baskets (puttonyos) containing 25 kg of botrytised grapes to a 136 litre "Gönc" barrel of must. Oremus’ Tokaji Aszú 5 Puttonyos Luxury Legends 1972, 2000, 2013 combines 3 iconic vintages of the same wine, 1972, 2000 and 2013, each of which reveal a unique identity.
Furmint, Hárslevelü, Zéta and Sárgamuskotály.
Tokaji Aszú 1972: Balanced and smooth, this wine seduces with its aromas of honey, dried fruit (prune and apricot) and caramel. To be enjoyed with foie gras, blue-veined cheeses or a fruit tart.
Tokaji Aszú 2000: This iconic vintage harmoniously blends power and roundness with an intense citrus and fruity (peach, apricot) aromatic palette. This fine Tokaji wine will complement blue-veined cheeses or a nougatine-based dessert.
Tokaji Aszú 2013: Fresh and perfectly balanced, this wine reveals delicious notes of dried peaches, flowers, honey and truffles. Due to its unique aromatic palette, this wine is best enjoyed as an aperitif rather than with a dessert.
