KRUG ROSÉ 26ÈME ÉDITION

The Rosé Champagne for Bold Gastronomic Experiences

Krug Rosé is inspired by the dream of the fifth generation of the Krug family to conceive a rosé Champagne that did not yet exist, one that could be re-created each year. Every Édition of Krug Rosé perpetuates this legacy.

Krug Rosé is surprising, as it replaces a good red wine at the table with brio. This Champagne is a delicate blend of wines of the year with wines from selected plots of the House’s vast reserve library, completed with traditionally macerated Pinot Noir to add structure and spice. A rest of around seven years in Krug’s cellars gives Krug Rosé its refined elegance and character.

A talk with Julie Cavil

Krug Cellar Master

The harvest of 2014 was generous and afforded us high quality fruit, which comprises 67% of the final blend. For the 26th Édition of Krug Rosé, we selected Chardonnays of the year from plots in the Côte de Blancs and the Montagne de Reims Sud for their citrus notes, chiselled structure and elegance, as well as a very special Pinot Noir from Sacy, which stood out for its brilliant redcurrant notes. This year, we also explored new avenues for the red Pinot Noir, choosing a blend of wines from plots in Aÿ and Taissy to achieve a unique spice expression. The composition was completed with reserve wines from 6 other years, including the unctuous and round Chardonnays of 2006.

Krug Rosé is inspired by the dream of the fifth generation of the Krug family to conceive a rosé Champagne that did not yet exist, one that could be re-created each year. Every Édition of Krug Rosé perpetuates this legacy.

The broad palette of elegant notes in Krug Rosé 26ème Édition is born from a selection of 28 wines from 7 different years, the youngest from 2014, and the oldest from 2005. It was completed with 11% traditionally macerated Pinot Noir of the year blended from plots in Aÿ and Taissy, to add a unique spiciness, colour and structure. A stay of around seven years in Krug’s cellars gives Krug Rosé 26ème Édition its unique expression and elegance.

Krug Rosé 26ème Édition was composed around the harvest of 2014, an erratic year that oscillated between hot dry spells, and cool rainy periods. Vines developed under good conditions, ensuring a generous, high quality harvest. The contrasting weather preserved freshness and resulted in great heterogeneity throughout the region, underscoring the importance of the House’s plot-by-plot approach. Each year, to re-create the dream of the fifth generation of the Krug family of an unexpected, bold and elegant rosé Champagne, the House starts by identifying plots’ wines from the current and previous years that will together convey all possible types of fruit expression. This composition then embraces a traditionally macerated red Pinot Noir, which adds spiciness, colour and structure. Krug Rosé 26ème Édition is thus the result of complementing the selected plots’ wines of the year with reserve wines from 6 other years. Reserve Chardonnay plot’s wines from the 2006 harvest bring roundness and unctuousness to this Édition of Krug Rosé, while a red Pinot Noir wine of the year blended from plots in Aÿ and Taissy completed the creation. It is the 26th time this dream has been re-created. In all, reserve wines from the House’s extensive library made up 33% of the final blend of this Édition of Krug Rosé.

The final composition of this Édition of Krug Rosé is 44% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay and 26% Meunier.

The most non-conformist of Krug Champagnes, Krug Rosé is for bold gastronomic adventures. Combining breadth, depth and grace, it is a perfect tango with savoury dishes of all kinds, replacing a good red wine at the table with brio. It can be enjoyed with foie gras, lamb, game, white meat, venison or even dishes with spices.

RATINGS

« An exotic, bright and freshly crushed raspberry nose, which persists. An exhilarating and fine wine. A fruit lolly note, but refined and smokily luxurious too. »

Decanter - 2022
RATING: 96/100

TASTING NOTES

At first sight, its subtle pale pink colour holds a promise of elegance.

On the nose, aromas of rose hips, cured ham, mulberries, redcurrant, peony, pepper and pink grapefruit.

On the palate, delicate flavours of honey, citrus and dried fruit with a long finish, enhanced by its fine bubbles complete the experience.

FOOD PAIRING

Krug Rosé lends itself to pairing ideas outside the box. For example, when it accompanies very good quality anchovies, a magical encounter occurs. The saltiness of the fish sublimes the fruit aromas and silkiness of the Champagne, turning the anchovies into a velvet sensation. Krug Rosé can also be enjoyed with foie gras, lamb, game, white meat, venison or even dishes with spices. Krug Rosé is not recommended for desserts, unless they are not sweet at all. Unexpectedly, it best accompanies very savoury dishes.

KRUG X MUSIC

The House of Krug has long sensed that a link existed between sound and taste perception. Many appreciators of fine wine and Music, or anyone who has used the Krug App, understands the joy of savouring this extraordinary Champagne while listening to a piece of Music and how such an experience allows one to travel down direct pathways to the sensations.

The House collaborates with renowned artists, as well as with rising newcomers who compose original tracks following their tastings with the Cellar Master. Their Music Pairings or “Krug Echoes” are accessible to anyone on Krug.com or via the Krug app, making it possible to share their unforgettable experience with Krug Champagne at home.

STORING & SERVING

THE RIGHT TEMPERATURE

The House of Krug recommends that its Champagnes be served between 9°C and 12°C, as colder temperatures limit the expression of their flavours and aromas. Bottles should be stored at the same temperature they are served, i.e. between 9°C and 12°C, as colder temperatures slow down the Champagne’s evolution, while warmer temperatures can cause irreversible damage. In general, thermal shocks should be avoided during storage and bottles should not be exposed to light. They should also be handled with care, as the contents are under pressure. When the time comes to open your bottle of Krug, make sure it is pointed away from yourself and other people, tilt it and remove the wire cap and foil. Holding the cork firmly with one hand, and the bottle with the other, turn the cork to slowly and gently release it. N.B. : Contains sulphites

THE RIGHT GLASS

To design a glass that would allow Krug Rosé’s singularly elegant and nonconformist character to be fully discovered, the House of Krug joined forces, once more, with master glassmaker Riedel. The result was a glass with a carefully selected shape and size to maximise the sensory experience of drinking Krug Rosé. Thanks to the fan-like shape of the inside of the glass – almost like a larger glass within a smaller glass – the surface area is greater, which increases the perception of all the flavours and aromas of Krug Rosé. The graceful, ultra-light glass born from a mouth-blown design surprises with its subtle undulations that unleash Krug Rosé’s features. It is the right instrument to play Krug Rosé’s unexpected and joyful music.

THE INFLUENCE OF TIME

Krug offers only prestige Champagnes, the most important characteristic of which is that they will gain beautifully with the passage of time.

WINE DIAMONDS

The House of Krug’s unique craftsmanship is based on our understanding every plot through its individual wine. After several tastings by the tasting committee, a thorough assessment of each plot’s wine is achieved. In order to reveal the individual essence of every Krug Champagne, the most expressive wines are selected to play in each composition accordingly. No strong filtering or cold treatment is applied to any of our wines before bottling, thereby keeping a non-interventionist approach to the creation of every Krug Champagne, from vineyards to glass. As a result of this choice, while enjoying Krug, you may occasionally notice at the bottom of the last glass a few wine diamonds – harmless tartrate crystals which can form naturally while bottles are resting or being chilled. These are also known as quality crystals and we at the House of Krug felt it was important to share with you this further evidence of our commitment to preserving the most natural approach to the creation of all Krug Champagnes.
