Biondi-Santi Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2001 "La Storica"
Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Riserva · La Storica Collection · Tenuta Greppo
Official Description
The 2001 Riserva "La Storica" represents one of the historic Brunello di Montalcino Riserva bottlings from Tenuta Greppo.
Produced exclusively from the estate's oldest vines and aged in Slavonian oak barrels for three years, it subsequently benefited from extended bottle ageing in the quiet darkness of "La Storica," Biondi-Santi's legendary library cellar.
This wine reflects the traditional style, patience, and longevity that have defined Biondi-Santi for generations.
Vintage 2001
At Tenuta Greppo, January through May were cold and wet. June, July, and August were dry and hot.
By early September the grapes had already reached full ripeness. Harvest began during the second decade of September under dry and cool conditions, allowing the fruit to be picked in excellent health and maturity.
Origin
The 2001 Riserva was produced using BBS11 (Brunello Biondi Santi 11), the estate's proprietary clone of Sangiovese Grosso.
This clone was identified and selected by Biondi-Santi at Tenuta Greppo during the 1970s.
For this Riserva, only grapes from the estate's oldest vines, more than 25 years of age, were used.
Ageing
The wine matured in Slavonian oak barrels for three years.
Following barrel ageing, it underwent long bottle refinement in "La Storica," the renowned bottle library at Tenuta Greppo where historic Biondi-Santi Riserva vintages are carefully preserved.
