Biondi-Santi Brunello di Montalcino 1993
Brunello di Montalcino DOCG · Tenuta Greppo · Tuscany, Italy
Official Description
The Biondi-Santi flagship wine, Brunello di Montalcino embodies the spirit of Tenuta Greppo and the signature style of the estate's winemakers.
Forged through more than 150 years of history, it is defined by its balanced combination of freshness, elegance, depth, and aristocratic personality.
The 1993 vintage reflects the timeless identity of Biondi-Santi and its historic contribution to the creation and evolution of Brunello di Montalcino.
Vintage 1993
The 1993 harvest was considered between excellent and exceptional.
The growing season benefited from a favourable spring, with March, April, and May bringing abundant rainfall. June, July, and August were dry and warm, promoting steady vine development and grape ripening.
A few showers arrived in mid-September, followed by a dry harvest that began on September 30.
Origin
The 1993 Brunello was produced using BBS11 (Brunello Biondi Santi 11), the estate's proprietary clone of Sangiovese Grosso.
BBS11 was identified and selected by Biondi-Santi at Tenuta Greppo during the 1970s and remains a defining element of the estate's identity.
For this vintage, grapes were sourced exclusively from vines between 10 and 25 years of age.
Ageing
The 1993 Brunello matured in Slavonian oak barrels for three years.
Following barrel ageing, the wine benefited from extended bottle refinement, allowing additional complexity and harmony to develop over time.
