Biondi-Santi Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 1970

"La Storica"

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Riserva · Historic Vintage · Tenuta Greppo

Italy Tuscany Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 1970 Vintage

Official Description

The 1970 Riserva was aged in Slavonian oak barrels for 3 years.

It benefited from a long refinement in bottle in the quiet and darkness of “La Storica,” the bottle library at Tenuta Greppo where the historic vintages of Biondi-Santi Riserva are carefully preserved.

This vintage was topped up and the cork was changed in 2007.

Estate Heritage

Biondi-Santi is one of the most important names in Italian wine history and is widely associated with the birth and identity of Brunello di Montalcino.

The estate’s Riserva bottlings are among the most collectible expressions of Sangiovese, known for longevity, restraint, structure, and remarkable ageing potential.

Vintage Character

The 1970 vintage represents a mature and historic expression of Biondi-Santi Riserva, shaped by long ageing, bottle refinement, and the estate’s traditional winemaking style.

At this age, provenance, storage history, cork condition, fill level, and recorking details are especially important when evaluating the bottle.

Serving Recommendations

Serve at around 16–18°C. Because this is a mature bottle, stand upright before opening, handle gently, and decant with care only if needed to separate sediment. Extended aggressive decanting is not recommended for very old bottles.

Cellaring & Bottle Condition

This is a historic mature wine intended for collectors and experienced drinkers. Bottle condition, provenance, fill level, capsule, label, cork, and storage history should be assessed carefully before purchase or service.

Why We Love It

Biondi-Santi Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 1970 is more than a bottle of wine. It is a piece of Brunello history from one of Italy’s most legendary estates, carrying the elegance, longevity, and quiet authority that define Tenuta Greppo’s greatest mature Riserva vintages.
