Deuxième Grand Cru Classé en 1855 · Pauillac AOC

Pauillac, Bordeaux Red Wine 2015 Vintage 750ml

Description

Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 2015 is the Grand Vin of one of Pauillac's historic Second Classified Growth estates. The 2015 blend brings together Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, combining the structure and depth associated with Pauillac with the refinement and expressive character traditionally associated with Pichon Comtesse.

Millésima describes the 2015 vintage as full-bodied and balanced, with an extremely deep purple colour, ripe black-fruit character and notable aromatic complexity. Dark chocolate, dried fruit, cedar and tobacco emerge alongside blueberry and blackcurrant flavours.

The official estate describes its Grand Vin as floral, fruity and spicy, combining the power of Pauillac with the femininity of the Comtesse. It is characterised as straightforward, precise, elegant, deep and refined.

The Pichon Comtesse Terroir

The official estate website currently reports 102 hectares under vine, divided among more than 100 individual vineyard plots in the southern part of the Pauillac appellation, close to the Gironde Estuary.

The Médoc terroir is characterised by gravel rises over clay subsoil. These light, well-drained soils provide favourable conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon, supported at Pichon Comtesse by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.

About Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande

The history of Pichon Comtesse developed from the historic Pichon Longueville estate. In 1850, Virginie de Pichon Longueville, Comtesse de Lalande, and her sisters inherited 30 hectares of the family property. Virginie subsequently built the château that bears her name.

In 1855, Château Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande was ranked as a Second Classified Growth in the classification commissioned for the Paris Universal Exhibition.

The Miailhe family began a new era at the estate in 1925. From the late 1970s, May-Eliane de Lencquesaing became one of the château's defining figures and strengthened its international reputation. Champagne Louis Roederer acquired the estate in 2007 and continues to oversee its development.
