Louis Roederer Carte Blanche Demi-Sec Champagne

Champagne, France Multi-Vintage Demi-Sec Champagne 38 g/L Dosage Chardonnay · Pinot Noir · Meunier Rich, Creamy and Fresh Approximately 3–4 Years Cellar Maturation 750ml

Description

Louis Roederer Carte Blanche Demi-Sec is an elegant, richly textured multi-vintage Champagne inspired by the generous style of fine Champagne enjoyed during the nineteenth century. Distinguished by its beautiful balance of delicate sweetness, bright acidity and creamy effervescence, Carte Blanche offers expressive notes of baked apple, ripe fruit, white flowers, honey, almonds and frangipane.

Created by the historic Champagne House of Louis Roederer, Carte Blanche celebrates a traditional approach to Champagne in which richness and sweetness are carefully balanced by finesse, freshness and aromatic precision. Its approachable yet sophisticated character makes it a particularly versatile choice for gastronomic enjoyment.

The cuvée is produced from three classic Champagne grape varieties: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier. The producer's general Carte Blanche profile identifies a composition of 40% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir and 20% Meunier, although the precise percentages can vary between individual numbered blends.

Like the House's Collection Champagne, Carte Blanche combines wines from carefully selected vineyard parcels with reserves from previous harvests. These reserve wines introduce depth, maturity and continuity, supporting the expressive fruit character of the more recent harvest.

Carte Blanche is distinguished from the House's Brut Collection cuvées by its higher dosage. With 38 grams per litre, the finished Champagne falls within the Demi-Sec category, offering a clearly richer, gently sweet profile while retaining freshness.

The producer's approach to blending ensures that this additional richness does not overwhelm the wine. Bright acidity, fine bubbles and restrained mineral character provide the tension needed for a balanced, elegant finish.

After approximately three to four years in the House's cellars, Carte Blanche develops an inviting combination of mature fruit, gentle pastry notes and a beautifully rounded mouthfeel.

In the glass, the Champagne reveals a pale golden colour and delicate, persistent bubbles. Its aromatic profile unfolds through cooked apple, caramelised orchard fruit, floral honey, white blossoms, almonds and freshly baked pastry.

On the palate, Carte Blanche is generous, creamy and wonderfully expressive. Its soft, rounded fruit is balanced by fine acidity, which brings energy and definition to the wine's richer character.

Toasted almond and frangipane contribute a refined pastry-like dimension, while subtle citrus freshness prevents the wine from becoming excessively heavy.

The finish is persistent, harmonious and beautifully balanced, allowing the creamy texture, ripe fruit and vibrant acidity to remain in graceful equilibrium.

Carte Blanche is also particularly appealing at the dining table. Louis Roederer recommends pairing it with spicy cuisine, blue cheeses, citrus-accented dishes and fine milk chocolate.

These pairings demonstrate the versatility of a well-made Demi-Sec Champagne: its gentle sweetness can soften certain spicy flavours, while its acidity and fine mousse provide freshness against richer foods.

With its distinctive Demi-Sec style, carefully balanced sweetness, elegant reserve-wine complexity and the craftsmanship of Champagne Louis Roederer, Carte Blanche is a sophisticated choice for Champagne enthusiasts, refined dining, dessert pairings and memorable celebrations.

What Makes Carte Blanche Different?

Carte Blanche occupies a distinctive position within Champagne Louis Roederer's collection, offering a richer expression of the House's characteristic balance and finesse.

Demi-Sec Classification: Carte Blanche contains a higher dosage than a traditional Brut Champagne. The producer specifies 38 g/L, placing it within the recognised Demi-Sec sweetness category.

Historical Inspiration: Its generous, creamy personality draws inspiration from the traditional Champagne styles favoured during the nineteenth century, when sweeter Champagnes were more common.

Balance Rather Than Sweetness Alone: Bright acidity, fine bubbles and mineral freshness keep the wine lively and balanced despite its richer texture.

Multi-Vintage Complexity: Blending wines from different harvests allows Louis Roederer to introduce depth and maturity while maintaining continuity of house character.

Gastronomic Versatility: The combination of fruit, sweetness and freshness makes Carte Blanche particularly well suited to spicy dishes, blue cheeses, savoury pastries and selected desserts.

Distinct from Collection Brut: Although Carte Blanche shares the House's blending expertise with the Collection series, it is deliberately made in the Demi-Sec style rather than Brut.

It is also distinct from Cristal and Cristal Rosé, which have their own vineyard selection, production methods and individual vintage identities.

Official Grape Composition and Blending

Carte Blanche is made using Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier, three grape varieties that complement one another in the finished Champagne.

The producer's general Carte Blanche cuvée profile records the following composition:

  • Chardonnay: 40%
  • Pinot Noir: 40%
  • Meunier: 20%

Chardonnay: Contributes finesse, floral character, bright acidity and the mineral freshness that balances the Champagne's sweeter style.

Pinot Noir: Provides fruit concentration, structure and the rounded texture that contributes to Carte Blanche's rich, creamy personality.

Meunier: Adds expressive orchard fruit and a supple, approachable dimension to the final blend.

Reserve Wines: Selected wines from earlier harvests complement the principal base wines, adding maturity, complexity and aromatic depth.

Oak Vinification: Louis Roederer uses oak for a portion of the wines. The general online cuvée record identifies 7% wine in oak, while documented individual blends can have different proportions.

The producer's historical technical sheet also describes partial malolactic fermentation and the use of selected oak-matured reserve wines.

Important Blend Qualification: Carte Blanche is a multi-vintage Champagne, and its exact grape proportions and oak treatment may vary between numbered releases. The general figures above are not a guarantee of the composition of every lot.

The actual release's precise blend and disgorgement date should be confirmed using the identifying details of the supplied bottle whenever available.

Vineyard Origins and Champagne Terroir

Carte Blanche brings together wines from carefully selected vineyard sites across the Champagne region, drawing on Louis Roederer's estate vineyards and trusted partner winegrowers.

The producer identifies three principal vineyard origins in the general Carte Blanche profile, each accounting for approximately one-third of the geographical sourcing.

La Rivière: Associated with the Marne Valley, contributing expressive fruit and complementary richness.

La Montagne: Associated with the Montagne de Reims, an important source of Pinot Noir character and structure.

La Côte: Associated with the Côte des Blancs, contributing Chardonnay freshness and chalk-driven precision.

Selected partner winegrowers contribute additional fruit from vineyards chosen for their quality and suitability for the House's desired style.

The diversity of vineyards and grape varieties enables the winemaking team to create a Champagne combining mature fruit, elegant texture and refreshing acidity.

Carte Blanche expresses the breadth of Louis Roederer's Champagne terroirs through a generous, harmonious and gastronomic Demi-Sec style.
