Solaia 2020 is Marchesi Antinori's iconic Toscana IGT from the Solaia vineyard at Tenuta Tignanello, produced from selected Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Sangiovese grapes.

The 2020 vintage is rich and enveloping, combining ripe berry fruit, herbal freshness, floral nuance and spice with velvety tannins and a long, persistent finish.

Solaia is produced from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Sangiovese. The grapes were destemmed, carefully selected, gently crushed and transferred by gravity into 60-hectolitre truncated-cone fermentation tanks.

Malolactic fermentation took place in barriques. The separate lots were aged in new French oak for approximately 18 months before blending and final maturation.

The 2020 growing season began with a mild, dry winter followed by a cooler, wetter spring. Summer was warm without excessive heat, with periodic rainfall supporting healthy cluster development.

Harvest began at the end of September with Cabernet Franc and Sangiovese and concluded on 10 October with Cabernet Sauvignon.

Appearance

Ruby red.

Nose

Blueberry, raspberry and currant mingle with plum and black cherry, followed by mint, myrtle, licorice and lavender. Cocoa, dried fruit, clove and pink pepper add further complexity.

Palate

Rich and mouth-filling on entry, then increasingly refined, with velvety tannins.

Finish

Long and persistent, echoing mint, licorice and chocolate.

The Solaia vineyard covers approximately 20 hectares at Tenuta Tignanello, with a south-westerly exposure at roughly 350–400 metres above sea level. Its rocky soils are rich in alberese limestone and galestro.

Serve in a generous Bordeaux-style glass at approximately 16–18°C. Decanting is recommended for a young bottle to open its layered fruit, herbs, spice and tannins.

Pair with grilled or roasted beef, lamb, osso buco, braised meats, porcini mushrooms, truffle dishes or mature cheeses.

Solaia 2020 is expansive yet polished, with ripe fruit, herbal lift, velvety tannins and the depth expected from one of Marchesi Antinori's flagship wines.
