Tasting notes: The grapes come from different subzones in Serralunga and this gives them a broad and variable spectrum of perfumes, ranging from tempting spicy notes to those of a sweeter, floral and fruity nature. Reviews: 92 points, Vinous, Antonio Galloni "The 2017 Barolo is a gorgeous, harmonious wine. In this vintage, the straight Barolo is a bit lighter than normal, as most wines are, but it is so impeccably balanced. Pliant and inviting, the 2017 will be pleasurable to drink in another year or two. The purity of the flavors is just striking. Red berry fruit, rose petal, mint, cinnamon and crushed rose petal are some of the many aromas and flavors that grace this exquisite Barolo from the Massolino family. So many 2017s are marked by sinewy tannins, here, they are especially fine." Drink 2022 - 2037 94 points, Parker's Wine Advocate, Monica Larner "The classic Massolino 2016 Barolo sources its fruit from Serralunga d'Alba, although a tiny percentage of Castiglione Falletto is part of the blend. This wine is linear and tight, with an arsenal of important Nebbiolo aromas ranging from red cherry and cassis to spice, smoke, licorice, dried ginger, rusty nail and blood orange. What really stands out is the structural importance of the wine. It delivers firmness and strength, while allowing the delicate side of the grape to coexist without interference. An ample 70,000 bottles of this well-priced Barolo were produced." 17++ points, JancisRobinson.com, Walter Speller "Grapes come from their Serralunga d’Alba holdings, as well as from Parussi in Castiglione Falletto. Total maceration time around 18 days. Beautiful lustrous ruby. Lifted and concentrated and with a touch of oak, but subtly done and with a hint of cumin. Generous yet fresh and tightly wound with chewy tannins, balanced by integrated, fresh acidity. Can be approached now, but has plenty of potential. Should be VGV. (WS)."
