Product Overview

Considered one of the world’s most remarkable salts, Persian Blue Salt offers a distinctive appearance and a unique gourmet appeal. It can be used like a classic salt, but its rare blue crystals make it especially suited for finishing dishes where both flavor and presentation matter.

Its aromas pair beautifully with seafood and fish, while also complementing comforting and classic preparations such as homemade mashed potatoes, bavette steak, foie gras, tomato salads, and other daily dishes that benefit from a clean, mineral seasoning touch.

What Makes It Special

Unlike sea salt harvested from salt marshes, Persian Blue Salt is a fossil or rock salt formed around 100 million years ago from ancient inland seas and lakes. Its unusual blue color comes from the presence of sylvinite, a potassium-bearing mineral found in halite salts.

Blue veins in halite are exceptionally rare, which makes Persian Blue Salt one of the most visually distinctive gourmet salts available. It is extracted by hand from the mountains of Semnan Province in northern Iran.

How to Use

Persian Blue Salt can be used in crystal form or ground more finely depending on the dish. The crystals may be placed directly into a mill, crushed with a mortar, or used as a decorative finishing element on plated food.

Use it to season fish en papillote, tomato salads, gazpacho, grilled meats, and simple vegetable dishes. Because of its attractive color and premium look, it also works beautifully as a finishing salt at the table.

Serving Suggestions

  • Sprinkle over bruschetta with fresh tomatoes just before serving.
  • Finish sliced entrecôte or bavette with a few pinches before plating.
  • Add a turn of the mill over tournedos after cooking.
  • Season tomato and cucumber salads for a fresh, mineral lift.
  • Use as a finishing touch on filet mignon before serving.
  • Try over homemade mashed potatoes or foie gras for a more luxurious presentation.

Pairing Ideas

Persian Blue Salt pairs especially well with oysters, grilled fish, roasted prawns, tomato-based dishes, beef cuts, foie gras, and simple vegetable preparations where premium finishing salt can stand out. It is also ideal for elegant tableside seasoning.

Why We Love It

This is the kind of pantry ingredient that instantly elevates a dish. It is visually striking, rooted in ancient geological history, and versatile enough for both professional kitchens and refined home dining.
