Tasting notes: Vibrant dark red. A lifted combination of bright red fruits with fresh spice notes of star anise and cedar. Bright red berry fruit, redcurrant and licorice flavours complement the soft and rounded Grenache fruit tannin and the savoury finish of Shiraz. Lovely refreshing acidity provides both lift and depth. Reviews: Hong Kong International Wine & Spirit Competition Bronze Hong Kong International Wine & Spirits Competition, November 2021, Hong Kong www.hkiwsc.com 92 points, Wine Pilot I can’t begin to tell you how many times this modestly priced over achiever has come up in big tastings I conduct each year. It’s a really consistent value for money red from the Barossa that always seems to deliver a little more than the price. This is stacked with bright red fruits that emerge from the Grenache component, while it is underpinned by deeper savoury plum flavours of the shiraz. A rich dark chocolate almost biscuit-like base and a touch of spice provide palate substance. The oak mix of largely used French and American is gently layered into the pool of fruit adding further to an already engaging combination. Excellent wine. 89 points, Robert Parker Wine Advocate A pretty typical blend of 78% Shiraz (aged in older oak) and 22% Grenache (matured only in stainless steel), the 2019 Wallace Shiraz-Grenache comes across as a bit tarry on first opening, followed by plummy, blackberry fruit, with more savory tones of black olive and bright blueberries on the medium to full-bodied palate. Not overly rich or extracted, this is a fine, silky offering that can be consumed over the next half-dozen years or so. 89 points, The Real Review Heady accents of dill and vanilla suggest a good measure of oak. The rich core of fruit threads throughout the sweet cloak of oak. This is a powerful and lofty expression of ripe red fruits. Its texture is chewy and a little raspy, and it finishes with a nice mix of rosehip, redcurrants and raspberry flavours.
