Our Savitar Shiraz is as charming, as much as it is bold. Similar to the dragon-like creature after which it’s named, it is a wine with great power, yet a softness, a polish, an elegant distinction. It’s not shy, and opens with bold, up front fruit, yet is delicately balanced with natural acidity and mouth coating tannins. Tasting notes: Deep and full bright red, A nose of incredible complexity with clove, cedar and wood spice lending a savoury impression to the powerful blackberry, black liquorice fruits Packed with layer after layer of flavour, this wine is a serious expression of Shiraz from this revered site. The cool vintage brings some elegance and a darker more savoury edge. Flavours tend to darker fruits: blackberry, black olive and sage like herbals. Clove spice derived from oak ageing adds another dimension again with that same oak providing some structural tannins that importantly frame and tame the expressive fruit. Reviews: 94 points – WINE ADVOCATE "Sourced from a lower-yielding section of the same vineyard as the GAM Shiraz and matured in 100% new oak, the 2017 Savitar Shiraz is tighter and more concentrated, yet it still remains essentially approachable. Hints of toasty oak frame bold blackberry and blueberry flavors in a wine that’s full-bodied and lush without being unstructured. Soft tannins dominate the long, mouthwatering finish." 93 points - HALLIDAY'S WINE COMPANION A capacious shiraz, rich and enveloping with its warmth. Plenty floral. Pulpy and grapey. Quintessentially regional, with blue to dark fruit accents, mocha-coffee-bean-bitter choco. tannins plied by the extract of fruit and ample use of oak. A long peppery linger, warming the recesses of the throat. A wine, very well crafted, for those who like largesse. 92 points - JAMES SUCKLING More balanced Mitolo with dried-berry and tea-leaf character. Wet-earth undertone. Still a big wine, but shows tension and energy at the end. Complex aftertaste. Drink now.
