MONTES ALPHA M

One of the Most Awarded Chilean Wines

The production of Montes Alpha M is extremely limited and vintages are only released if our head winemaker, Aurelio Montes considers the quality of the wine to be of a good enough standard. Production starts by selecting individual grapes at harvest time. This wine, from Colchagua Valley, is one of the best and most awarded Chilean wines.

96 POINTS

RED WINE 2018
DECANTER - 2021

With the 1996 vintage of Montes Alpha M, Aurelio Montes jolted the high-end Chilean wine scene into life. 2018 was another superb year for this Cabernet Sauvignon, which topped off with Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot to achieve a sophisticated expression of blackberry, cherry, blackcurrant, graphite and oak, alongside good structure, fine tannins and a sweet finish of blackcurrant jam. Drink 2021-2030, Alc 14.8%.

ORIGIN

APALTA

The singular characteristics and location of this sub-valley, which extends from the Tinguiririca River in the south to the hills of Apalta in the north, allow for fewer hours of sun exposure on the vines, contributing to a slower, but more complete, ripening of the grapes. Apalta’s topography is very heterogenous, with zones with a large presence of pebbles and influenced by the movement of earth from high up in the mountain range. The soils are deep on the flat areas of the valley and thinner at the foot of the mountains and in the higher-altitude areas.
