1ST CLASSIFIED GROWTH, PAUILLAC

Vintage 2012

  • 91% Cabernet-Sauvignon
  • 8.5% Merlot
  • 0.5% Petit Verdot

2012 was characterized by difficult weather conditions in Bordeaux.
After a relatively mild winter, rain and humidity dominated during the spring and especially in April during which a hailstorm was recorded (April 24).
Such conditions caused difficult fertilization and raised fears of downward quantitative repercussions. The work of the winegrowers was more essential than ever.
June and July alternated between heat and humidity. From August, we found a certain climatological stability which allowed the healthy grapes to perfect their maturity.
Nevertheless, a certain heterogeneity of maturities forced our teams to do a lot of sorting work from the end of September.

TASTING NOTES (AT BOTTLING):

Closed nose, then the fruit which is expressed is slightly dominated by wood. On the palate, a tight and dense structure. Then the heart of the wine expresses itself on a solid, compact balance. The finish, although very dense, shows "almost light and airy" tannins! Great length and persistence.

“Lafite has a soul, a beautiful soul, tender and generous. Lafite turns the earth into a dream. Lafite is harmony, harmony between nature and man because, without our marvelous winegrowers, nothing would be done”.
Baron Eric de Rothschild

As early as 1815, the broker Guillaume Lawton said of Château Lafite: “I classified it as possessing the most elegance and delicacy and the finest sap of the three [Premiers Crus]. The position of its vines is one of the most beautiful in the Médoc”. In 1855, the Château will be consecrated 1st Grand Cru on the occasion of the famous Classification drawn up during the Universal Exhibition.
