HELBIG 1915 2018 SHIRAZ A single vineyard selection of truly remarkable Shiraz that was planted by the Helbig family in 1915. This vineyard is located on the western ridge of the famous Barossa Valley and has been a highly sought after parcel for many of the Barossa’s leading winemakers. Luckily for the Ashmead family, we were able to acquire this vineyard in 2010, forever ending the race to get this amazing fruit.

DETAILS Vineyard Greenock, single vineyard block planted in 1915, sandy loam soil Production 1127 bottles Style Rich and stylish Colour Dense, dark purple Aroma Blackberry and plum with spicy cloves and a touch of aniseed Palate Rich and structured, brooding with spicy plums and ripe fruit. A firm, long tannin structure underpins and carries the fruit through the palate. Alc/vol 15.5% Cellaring Up to a couple of decades from vintage, given good cellaring conditions

WINEMAKERS’ COMMENTS Decent winter rains heading into spring gave an ideal start to the growing season. The vines were crop-thinned to ensure even and complete ripening, with adequate canopy to ensure the even development of abundant flavour and tannin. Hand picked, fermented in a large barrel (1500 litres) and left on skins in this closed vessel for nearly six weeks. The wine was then pressed and spent a couple of winters in some of our favourite French oak before the best few barrels were chosen. The 2018 Helbig 1915 Shiraz has abundant presence on the palate, with fruit and tannin seamlessly aligned. - Jules Ashmead & Brock Harrison
