Cordero di Montezemolo Barolo Monfalletto® DOCG 2021

Barolo DOCG La Morra · Piedmont, Italy Nebbiolo 2021 Vintage 750ml

Official Description

Barolo Monfalletto® is the flagship wine of Cordero di Montezemolo — the label the estate considers the clearest expression of its history, heritage, culture and identity.

It is produced by bringing together the estate's Barolo vineyard parcels in La Morra, excluding the small selections reserved for Barolo Gattera and Barolo Riserva Gorette. These vineyards extend across approximately 14 hectares and form the foundation of the estate's largest Barolo production.

Each section of the hillside is harvested separately so that the fruit can be picked at the most appropriate moment for each individual parcel. Vinification and maturation in wood also proceed separately, with the various lots united only for the final blend at bottling.

Cordero di Montezemolo defines Monfalletto® by its approachability, delicacy and readiness to drink, making it a Barolo capable of giving pleasure even relatively early in its evolution while remaining firmly rooted in the character of La Morra.

The Monfalletto Estate

The historic Monfalletto property lies in the Annunziata hamlet of La Morra in the heart of the Langhe. The Cordero di Montezemolo family continues a connection with the estate that has passed through generations and today remains under family stewardship.

Cordero di Montezemolo cultivates more than 50 hectares of vineyards in the hills around Alba, including important holdings in La Morra as well as sites in Alba, Castiglione Falletto, Guarene and Cherasco. The estate follows a 100% certified organic farming system.

2021 Vintage Profile

The 2021 Monfalletto® shows the elegance and structure associated with Nebbiolo from La Morra. Red and dark cherry fruit is joined by floral, herbal and lightly spiced nuances, while the palate combines freshness with fine, structured tannins.

Its balance between perfume, fruit and tannic structure gives the wine both immediate appeal and the capacity to evolve further in bottle.

  • For drinking young, consider decanting to allow the fruit, florals and tannins to open.
  • Suitable for further cellar ageing as the Nebbiolo develops greater aromatic complexity.

  • Braised beef
  • Roast beef and lamb
  • Game
  • Truffle dishes
  • Wild mushroom risotto
  • Agnolotti and rich meat pasta
  • Parmigiano Reggiano

Why We Love It

Monfalletto® is particularly compelling because it is not a wine drawn from a single isolated parcel. Instead, it brings together the character of Cordero di Montezemolo's extensive La Morra holdings, with each section harvested and vinified independently before the final assemblage.

The result captures the graceful side of Barolo: Nebbiolo's structure and longevity are present, but they are expressed with the delicacy, balance and early approachability that the estate identifies as defining characteristics of Monfalletto®.
