Espolòn · 100% Blue Weber Agave · Los Altos de Jalisco

Espolòn Tequila Reposado

Delicate yet complex, with roasted agave, caramel, tropical fruit, vanilla and warming spice shaped by American oak.

Tequila Reposado 100% Blue Weber Agave Aged at Least 2 Months 40% ABV 75cl Mexico

Description

Espolòn Tequila Reposado is made from 100% Blue Weber Agave and aged for at least two months in American oak barrels, adding richness and complexity while preserving the distinctive roasted-agave character at its core.

Rich and golden in appearance, Espolòn Reposado opens with spicy aromas and caramel-fudge nuances before revealing a bold, medium-to-full-bodied palate of roasted agave, tropical fruit, vanilla and warming spices. Its smooth finish brings the oak-aged character together without overwhelming the agave.

Versatile enough for sipping neat or over ice yet specifically celebrated by Espolòn as an excellent tequila for Margaritas, it combines the freshness of agave with just enough oak influence to add depth and warmth.

Craftsmanship

Espolòn begins with hand-harvested 100% Blue Weber Agave. The piñas are steam-cooked in custom-built stainless-steel autoclaves developed by founder and Maestro Tequilero Cirilo Oropeza to achieve delicate extraction while balancing fresh and cooked agave character.

Once cooked, the agave passes through roller mills to extract its sugars. The remaining agave fibre, or bagasse, is repurposed as fertiliser, with some supplied to local farmers.

Fermentation continues one of Cirilo's distinctive traditions: classical music is played while the yeast works. Espolòn then uses a combination of pot and column stills during distillation — the traditional pot still contributing earthier character and the column still producing a lighter, fruitier profile.

For its aged tequilas, Espolòn uses #2 charred American oak barrels. The tequila enters the barrel at a lower alcohol level, allowing less water to be added before bottling and helping retain flavour through the ageing process.

Espolòn Tequila is distilled and bottled at Casa San Nicolás, NOM 1440, in Los Altos de Jalisco.

The Story Behind the Reposado Label

Espolòn's Reposado label takes its inspiration from the Mexican mercado — the traditional marketplace where commerce, craft, food, colour, sound and everyday Mexican life come together.

Espolòn describes the mercado as a place where artists find the materials they need to create and where unexpected discoveries are part of the experience. Ramón and Guadalupe, recurring characters within Espolòn's label artwork, appear exploring this lively marketplace scene.

The wider Espolòn visual identity takes inspiration from Mexican artist and printmaker José Guadalupe Posada, whose work influenced the distinctive illustrated style found across the brand's bottles.

Award-Winning Tequila

Espolòn's official Reposado page lists recognition from international spirits competitions including:

  • IWSC – Gold Winner
  • ASCOT Awards – Gold Winner
  • BTI – Gold Winner

About Espolòn

Espolòn was created through the vision of the late Maestro Tequilero Cirilo Oropeza. In 1996, Cirilo began building Casa San Nicolás, NOM 1440, in Los Altos de Jalisco as the home of Espolòn.

His approach brought together established Mexican tequila-making traditions with technical innovation, creating a distillery where the brand describes art and science as working together.

The name Espolòn means “spur” in Spanish, referencing the rooster that became one of the brand's defining symbols and reflecting its connection to Mexican craftsmanship, creativity and culture.
