A colder and more humid winter than the last vintages, then a rather warm spring until July allowed an early veraison and a good maturity. August was cooler but was followed by a sunny September – apart from a stormy spell in mid-September which accelerated the harvest.

TASTING NOTES (AT BOTTLING):

Beautiful very dark dress. The nose is discreet, with primary notes then an ample and quite dense evolution. Quite powerful on the palate with a very nice structure and a nice tannic finish and well-integrated woody notes.

As early as 1815, the broker Guillaume Lawton said of Château Lafite: “I classified it as possessing the most elegance and delicacy and the finest sap of the three [Premiers Crus]. The position of its vines is one of the most beautiful in the Médoc”. In 1855, the Château will be consecrated 1st Grand Cru on the occasion of the famous Classification drawn up during the Universal Exhibition.

ASSOCIATED GRAPE VARIETIES IN WINE:

80 to 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5 to 20% Merlot, 0 to 5% Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
Note, a few exceptional cases, 1994 vintage: 99% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Petit Verdot, 1961 vintage: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon
